How should I choose which walls to paint with different colors?

My living room is rectangular, and it has a large window on a long wall and a smaller window on the smaller wall. I would like to paint 2 walls brown, and two walls cream. Is there a rule of thumb when painting with different colors? How should I choose which walls to paint with different colors?
normally you choose your fave color for your feature wall(fire place or other feature) normally the wall directly in front as you walk in room normally just 1 wall but if 2 then oppositesHow should I choose which walls to paint with different colors?
Paint the two longer walls one color and the two smaller walls the other. This creates a balance in the room.

To tie in the windows and make them stand out-paint the window casing cream that is on the brown wall and paint the other window casing that is on the cream wall brown.

Just my take on it. : )
well i would do everyother but put the darker colour on the window side so it pops out. then it will look more balenced
First of all, it is just paint. So...rather than get worried just paint the walls the colors you think you like and see how it looks?? Most rooms are just one color but if you like both use both. You could paint the entrance wall ( the wall to the right of the entry door) cream then go to brown, go brown on the next smaller wall and cream on the back wall...that should work...good luck!
