Can i use normal masking tape to paint walls?

i don't have any painter's tape so i was wondering if I could use the normal kind (tan colored) one to use to paint green on my white walls. Also, is there any way to tape a straight line on the wall? like tools etc..Can i use normal masking tape to paint walls?
You can use regular masking tape but there are draw backs with this cheaper method.

One is that the tape tends to stick either really well, making it a mess to get off the walls or it doesn't stick well enough and the paint bleeds underneath, making a whole mess that you were trying to avoid.

Best suggestion is to go with the green (usually that is what colour it is) painters tape.

Some things you should just not cheap out on. I have painted many houses, many murals, etc. and using the proper tools leads to a better end finished project. If it is worth your time once to do the project, it is worth your time and money to do it right with the right tools. Make sure you don't use a crappy paintbrush either.

Another handy tool for edging is a...an edging tool. There are a couple of different kinds.

One: you hold and paint up and over the edge so that you just move down the wall painting, no tape involved.

Two: you dip this special tool (a flat brush) and smooth it perfectly along your ceiling (etc.) it is really smooth feeling and looks great. Worth the investment (not much) and it is so easy to use.

Good luck! Can i use normal masking tape to paint walls?
I find regular masking tape to be ';stickier'; and sometime harder to take off than painters tape, when all is said and done. Also, it seems to lift some of the new paint off as well.
Regular tape is fine... be sure to remove it in 48 hours or less to avoid having it stick to the walls when you try to remove it.

I used a yard stick, they are cheep and you can use them as a nice guide.

More spendy option is the laser levels that shoot a laser light across the wall.
no no no no no....it is not okay to use masking tape when you paint...that is why there is painter's tape!!!!

but, if you wan't to try it, go ahead...just budget for new trim paint.
Why would you want to use tape to paint a wall? jk. yes you can use regular masking to tape off the walls before you paint. as to straightness. a yard stick and a level can do wonders. or you can do a laser level on the wall. hope those help
use a thumtack and some string and dont press the tape down all the way it might remove the paint under it if you wet some yarn down it will be heavy enough to get you close to plum
no!!!!!!!!!1 dont use maskingtape it has a strong adhesive and will pull the old paint off the walls when you pull the tape off. use the blue tape made by 3m--------------------------------------鈥?a laser level to tape a straight line on the wall. they are really cheap now. go to sears and buyone
Normal masking tape is fine, it's cheaper as well. I'm not too sure about the straight line bit though, sorry.
