Have ceilings with (smooth) border. Want to paint this border wall color with crown in between. Any advice?

My ceilings are 9 ft, stucco and have a smooth 4 '; smooth border where the it meets the walls. Would like to put up crown moulding and paint this ceiling border the sae color as the walls. The area where the smooth meets the popcorn will be a pain to paint. Why not paint some speed base and run that along your border. Then connect the crown to that. This would give you a lot of depth and the color that you want. Plus it would really make the color of the crown pop!Have ceilings with (smooth) border. I think your crown molding idea is excellent!! Wish I could talk my husband into diong mine. He has quite an extensive list as it is. So, glad to hear your getting yours. It just adds so much class and character especially with 9 ft. stocco, thats unique!!
