Nees advice on picking out wall paint colors?

I am in the process of painting my entire main level. The only color I'm sure of is a brick/rust red for the kitchen. It has been white for 12 years and I want something really warm for a change! We have a very open floor plan and you can easily see most of the rooms from the kitchen. I will be painting a family room, living room, dining room, 1/2 bath and laundry room as well as the foyer and hallways leading upstairs. Any suggestions on colors? We have oak trim/cabinets and most of our furntiture is neutral/brown; flooring is also neutral/beige tones in all rooms. THANKS!Nees advice on picking out wall paint colors?
I'd suggest going for a color to unify all the different spaces. Trying something too dramatic will simply overpower the furnishings within the spaces so consider a color that will recede rather than protrude. The beige-brown spectrum seems the most obvious. Try for a lighter shade; one that is in the top three on a paint chit. Keep in mind the amount of light, ceiling height and architecture of your spaces when deciding how deep a color to choose. When in doubt go lighter. You could also go with something like a honey gold or pale aqua blue. Don't feel like you have to paint everything the same color. The 1/2 bath and launrdy (at least) would have specific lines of demarcation easily allowing for additonal color options. Small rooms like these are great places to express a little more personality. Have you considered wallpaper in either of these?Nees advice on picking out wall paint colors?
play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family %26amp; color name, the ';painted'; rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think ';lemon verbena'; (# 7726) would coordinate beautifully with the rustic red.

You can take a photo of your house %26amp; upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions %26amp; for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
My kitchen is done in rust red cheesecloth over copper, everyone loves it. My house like yours very open, adjoining rooms are brown (in red tones) beige's with accents in black and rust red. I would stay with one color for all adjoining walls, especially since the kitchen is so bold. Accents in the red and it will all flow. You can vary off with your browns, reds, coppers, gold, rusts etc. Have fun!

If you're certain of going with red, make sure you use good quality paint and primer (Google: red paint problems) or be prepared to put 6-8 coats of red paint on the walls.

Don't know if you live in england or not but in a kitchen place we have, there's bit of coloured plastic that goes in-between the work top and the bottom of the cabnets, so if you wanted red you can measure it and get that made 2 size and use another bit as a splash-back behind the cooker, and it saves a bit on paint but i would leave it as white or you could do black but have loads of spot lighting and going across the bit between the bottom of the cupboards and the floor, it could be a good topic 2 tlk about if you have friends over!and also if you want 2 change your cabnet doors measure them and just buy the doors much cheaper!!hope that helps doubt it will, but theres a few ideas there!
