Use a product called Kilz. It is a primer formulated to bond to a variety of contaminated substrates and prevent bleedthrough of greases and odors. Use a primer sealer on it before painting also make sure the wall is free of grease as you said its in the kitchen.
Kilz primer works great, but make sure you clean any grease off the wall first.
